Well they consulted us, but did not listen! ASD20 patted us on the head and said okay, we had our town halls, now we do what we want.

The new D20 schedule options are causing issues with all the

Work Schedules

Juggling kids transportation schedules

Causing more childcare expenses

Even with 2 working parents, coordinating 3 different start and pickup times spread over 2 hours is nearly impossible for any family.

Causing more childcare expenses

Juggling kids transportation schedules

Causing more childcare expenses

The new start and end times are expected to significantly increase expenses due to added childcare and after-school programs to fill the gap for working families.

Juggling kids transportation schedules

Kids' schedules are difficult enough to manage as it is!  Now factor in the added complexity of the proposed schedule, sports and activities, work, etc.

Kids Sports and activities

Kids Sports and activities

Juggling kids transportation schedules

Most kid's sports activities are based around an assumed 3:30 pm school end time.  How are kids supposed to make it to activities unless those times are also shifted later.  When are kids supposed to sleep??

Single parent household

Kids Sports and activities

Single parent household

Even in a two-parent household, the above-mentioned challenges are nearly impossible.  There are many single-parent and divorced-parent households that simply could not continue to enroll in D-20 if these changes are implemented.

Quality Family Time

With the new schedules, you'll spend all your time juggling transportation, school schedules, work, and other responsibilities.  When will there be any time left for "family time"??

What we need to do:

Hello D20 Parents and Friends:

We are extremely concerned for the fate of our D20 students and parents. We have mentioned just a few of the hardships our families are going to have if the district moves forward with one of these time changes they sent out in an email on May 12th, 2023.

Here is what we need to do.

We need to make ourselves heard. They now KNOW this will impact our lives and they don't care! That is not okay. I have already heard several parents say, "One of us has to quit our job!". This is absurd! They did not address the 80 min window that is KILLING parents between middle and elementary school!

Article:

The following article shows that parents of D20 do not like this course of action.. We need to be listened to!

Who to contact:

Below is the phone number and email address for several of the people we need to contact at District 20. We have also included a templated email for you to use but PLEASE personalize this letter! The more you put in your own hardships and examples the more we are going to be heard.

Email each of these people the email that YOU have made. Just copy and paste it to each of them individually. And insert their name at the top of the letter.
